Poison Study is the first book in the Chronicles of Ixia.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ – Near Perfect, easily one of my all-time favourites.

Yelena is on deathrow when Valek comes to her with an offer that’s almost too good to believe: She can be spared, but only if she agrees to risk her life by tasting the Commander of Ixia’s for poison. To ensure that she won’t just run away, Valek poisons her with Butterfly Dust and thus making sure she’ll come back daily to get the antidote. If that wasn’t enough, Yelena is starting to develop magical powers that she can’t seem to control—and it proves to attract even more trouble for her as she tries to hide it from the very people who banned magic in the first place.
