A year with BookBoxClub

Obviously, I like book subscription boxes. In fact, I’ve tried quite a few of them so far. I only subscribe to two every month, though.

So, because I really liked compiling the last 7 months of fairyloot unboxings, I wanted to do something similar for my other monthly subscription box: bookboxclub.

It won’t be exactly the same format as last time, but I hope you’ll like it anyway.

Note: if you just want to see the contents of the September 2017 bookboxclub, simply scroll down to see an unboxing.

September 2016

Theme: Enchanted Forest

Featured Book: The Call by Peadar O’guilin

Fandoms: A Court of Mist and Fury, Harry Potter,

  • Spring Court necklace from Oh Panda Eyes
  • Enchanted Forest Notebook by Nikki Strange
  • Expecto Patronum Print from The Paper Trade
  • Founding Member badge from Book Box Club
  • Bookish extra: Samplers and badges

Opinion: I was pleasantly surprised to see the contents of this box. It was a strong debut, and the book it self was mysteriously creepy.

Furthermore, the online book club was amazing. We got inside scoops and was able to ask questions directly to Peadar.

October 2016

Theme: Freedom Squad

Featured Book: The Hypnotist by Laurence Anholt

Fandoms: Hunger Games, An Ember in the Ashes, Hypnotist,

  • I have a dream-catcher web from DIY Blonde
  • Book Brooch by Lucie-Ellen
  • Elias candle from MerakiCandles
  • Fire is Catching print from Always Yesterday
  • Bookish Extras: Shadowhunter totebag, SJM promotional bookmark, postcard.

I wasn’t able to finish reading the book, but the bookclub meeting still provided exclusive reveals, tips on research and lots of fun with the author.

November 2016

Theme: Secrets & Sisterhood

  • Anne of Green Gables coloring print by Carror Top Paper Shop
  • Shelfie Bunting from Book Box Club Team
  • Bookish Extra: Diabolic badges, Stealing Snow mirror, The One promo postcards.

This book was easy to read, which kinda made the subject a bit more creepy. It was easy to connect with the characters, a feat that surprised me since I have a sister, as well. Bookclub provided fun facts on inspiration and cover making, plus Cylin was amazing.

Oh, Finn ๐Ÿ’™

Book club was every bit of magical and fun as you’d expect from this theme. With insights on inspiration and research, this bookclub meeting was one of my favourites.

January 2017

Theme: Immortal Stories

Featured Book: Ink by Alice Broadway

Fandoms: The Wrath and the Dawn, BookBoxClub,

  • INK’D (con)temporary tattoos by U Studio
  • The Wrath and The Dawn sticker from Chelley Reads Designs
  • Reading Resolution Card from The Book Box Club Team
  • Bookish Extras: samplers + promo postcard

Apart from being ridiculously stunning, the book also made me think about art, life and stories. It was fun to participate in the bookclub and see how the book affected the other members. Plus, I believe I got permission to write a Fanfic. ๐Ÿ˜†

  • Bookish Extras: Lord of Shadows Sample, Mortal Instruments coloring sheet, Adam Silvera Bookmark

IT’S ALL ABOUT ME! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ โ€” At least, that’s how it feels when I get a personalised gift in the box. It amazing to feel like I’m such a part of everything. Plus Lisa Williamson was a star.

March 2017

Theme: Time Travel

Featured Book: Waking in Time by Angie Stanton

  • Time Turner Print from Goodnight Boutique

  • Reading Time magnet from BookBoxClub
  • Bookish Extras: Melinda Salisbury short story prequel, the circus bookmark,

Before I flail about the book and bookclub, let me just, once more, squeal about that short story. I’m a huge fan of Salisbury, and I was so sad that the short story only was handed out at book con. But now I have it ๐Ÿ’™

The book was super cute with some suspense as we revealed the mystery, but also because of a bad case of feels for the leads. Of course Bookclub was a blast.

April 2017

Theme: Belles & Beasts

Featured Book: Hunted by Meagan Spooner

Fandoms: Beauty and the beast,

  • Beauty and The Beast Quote Flag by Fox + Lilly
  • Belle Coaster by Bird Illustration
  • Mrs Potts & Chip Chocolate Lollies by Maple Molly’s
  • Beast Sticker by Cirtolthioel
  • Book Box Club Postcard set by Haxahmet Films
  • Bookish Extras: Promo postcards

It’s rare that I’ve been able to guess the books that were chosen for the box, but with this one, I pretty much hoped and prayed. It was a lovely retelling, and even more special for me, since I was asked to do the super special reading for the bookclub due to Meagan being sick.

May 2017

Theme: Wizards at War

Featured Book: Spellslinger by Sebastien De Castell

Fandoms: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, A Darker Shade of Magic,

  • Dumbledore Pin by The Potter Emporium

  • Unicorn Gandalf Notebook by Neon Magpie
  • Bookish pencils by Book Box Club
  • Bookish Extras: Spellslinger Swag, promo Bookmark, ACOWAR preorder print
  • + a wooden wand I won from bookboxclub (YAY)

Spellslinger was probably one of my favorite reads of 2017 (And I’m eagerly waiting for my Shadowblack to arrive). Sebastien revealed some insights about sequels, publishing and even some earlier ideas for a character I adored. The book club was definitely one of my favorites.

I… Did not see that twist coming. Like, I suspected a thousand different things, but… wow. Amazing book and amazing book club. Talking about the good bad boys, and the really awful ones. Yikes.

July 2017

Theme: Spells & Remedies

Featured Book: The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy

  • Hocus Focus Tea by The Bluebird Tea Company
  • Raven Boys Soap by Just Fribble
  • Unashamedly Bookish Mirror by Moon Kestrel

One of the things I often wonder when I read, is whether the plot or the characters came first. In The Disappearances there’s a mystery interwoven in the plot and I was baffled by the way it wrapped up. Book Club provided me with a way to ask the author directly, and it was fun to see how the book came to be. Plus, it was nice to share the thoughts that this book brought forth.

August 2017

I’m not usually a fan of Historical Fiction, but with Book Box Club I’ve come to appreciate it a bit more. Not only does the book provide insight, but also the book club meetings reveal fun facts about our history.

What is this… Adulting… You speak of?

Kidding. I know the feeling (even though I do try to live in ignorant bliss about the woes of adulthood. Doesn’t quite work, I’m afraid) but I suddenly had A LOT of room on my budget when I quit smoking. Hence this obsession.

Have you tried any? If you have, which ones? And if you haven’t, are there some you’ve been eyeing?

    • MajaDiana says:

Oooh. If you have trouble deciding, I’m always willing to give opinions. There’s lots out there, and I’ve tried most (not all) so my input could help narrow it down to one that’ll fit you xD

    • MajaDiana says:

I was with them from the start, so they gave a special place with me. I especially like the book club aspect and talks with authors. That’s super cool. Do let me know if you have any questions ๐Ÿ’™

    • MajaDiana says:

It’s just right for me. And I personally really love the swag and promo items as well. Mostly because as an international blogger it’s not often I can get my hands on ARCS or preorder swag
